Chas Municipal Corporation
Chas Municipality was established on 21 Jan 1977. And it change into Municipal Corporation on 9 February 2015. Total 35 wards came under Chas Municipality with total area of 2937 ha. Total population of Chas as per Census 2001, is 97,221 which is 12% of the total urban population of the district (1.6% of the total urban population of Jharkhand) and as per Census 2011, is 1, 41,618. Chas, besides enjoying the status of a prestigious industrial town of the country, has also evolved as a centre of commercial, business and educational activities of a large hinterland.
Chas Municipality is located adjoining to the Bokaro Steel City in the Bokaro district of Jharkhand is a classic example of a planned industrial town. It is a Class I town with a total population of 3,93,805 persons as per Census 2001 and owes its genesis to the Bokaro Steel plant. Consequent to the growth of Bokaro Steel City,Chas, a small town of 5000 odd population in 1951 has grown to a Class - II size town rapidly growing further. As per the notification no. 707 dated 28th December 2005 by the Government of Jharkhand, Bokaro Steel City, Chas, Bandhgora and the village of Kamaldih together form the Chas-Bokaro Municipal Corporation (Chas Nagar Nigam).
